Setting your 2023 success mindset

What the last couple of years have taught us (apart from how to make sourdough!) is that uncertainty is part of our lives. We have been living with constant change – new virus variants, masks then no masks then masks again, lockdowns, and the ever-changing border rules…the list goes on.

It’s been TOUGH and it continues to be TOUGH!

While there is no doubt that we are continuing in a very stressful time, one of the positives we can take out of this is the resilience that we have built during this time. What we have all been through, no matter how we’ve experienced it, leads to us digging deep to learn how to bounce back from tough life experiences and work out how to flourish and thrive through challenging life experiences.

While we can’t change the situation we can choose how we respond to it and now is the ideal time to reset your mindset and set yourself up for a year filled with positive habits so you can handle whatever is thrown your way.

I’ve been working with my clients on their 2023 goals and I wanted to share some top tips for setting yourself up for success this year.

1. Work Smarter Not Harder

Declutter your schedule and business. Decipher what processes, techniques, and activities are driving your success and which may be holding you back. Stop investing time, money and energy into trying to make the unworkable work. This will make room for new ideas and opportunities in the coming year.

2. Write It Down

There’s a simple trick to make your goals come to life faster: write down your goals. Putting them in writing means you’re about three times more likely to achieve them than those that don’t. Record your goals, along with your action plan for making them happen so you’re clear on the key priorities for achieving your goals.

3. Keep On Track

To keep track of your goals, check in regularly. I like to check in weekly to reflect on how I’m tracking. I ask myself, is the work I’m doing contributing to achieving my goals? Is there anything I need to stop, start or delegate to help me move in the right direction? While it’s impractical to perform an in-depth analysis on a weekly or even monthly basis, doing a weekly check-in can keep you aligned with your vision and allow you to make adjustments as needed.

4. Keep Things In Perspective

Ensure that your goals are realistic and keep things in perspective, after all, we’re all human and as I say to my clients (and myself) often – it’s about precision, not perfection. Disappointment is frequently a product of not meeting the expectations of ourselves and others. Understand that things will not always go as planned and that it takes sustained effort and time to achieve your goals and bring them to life.

5. Take Time To Nurture Your Body and Mind

When you’re ambitious with your goals, you can lose sight of nurturing your physical and emotional wellbeing and become more vulnerable to burnout. Peak performance involves looking after your mind and body to achieve your goals. Whatever the mindful activity that helps you to recharge, do it daily – it could be starting the day with meditation, journaling, exercise – or a combination of all of these. Remember that small is better than not at all – two minutes is better than no minutes. Schedule mindful moments into your day that fill your cup and notice the difference.

At the top of your goals list, add a reminder to reward yourself for the effort, not just the outcome.

We’ve all built a lot of resilience over the past couple of years as we’ve navigated the uncertainty and challenges of the pandemic.  The new year brings a lot of opportunities and I am excited for what’s ahead!
